Local Information

Saint Cernin has a small restaurant/bar from which bread can be ordered.

Villefranche du Périgord (4km, 2.5 miles) has more comprehensive services, including:

  • Bank (with ATM)

  • Doctor

  • Boulangeries

  • Butchers

  • Small supermarket (Utile)

  • Post office

Canoeing

  • available on the Dordogne, Lot and Vézère rivers; this is quite safe and suitable for families.

Bicycles

  • may be hired at Belvès railway station (15km, 8 miles). The quiet roads around Les Sabots are ideal for cycling.

Walking

  • fascinating walks (long or short) may be taken  from Les Sabots - large scale maps, showing the  many footpaths, are available in the house

Cuisine

  • Périgord (Dordogne) is justifiably famous for it's  cuisine. The two great stars are foie gras and  truffles (truffes).

  • Cèpes, wild Porcini mushrooms, are another  delicacy - watch out for the market in Villefranche  du Perigord when they come into season!

Wine

  • The wines should not be scorned either. There  are the fine dark, almost peppery reds from   Cahors, and both reds and whites from the  vineyards of Bergerac.

  • The sweet, white Monbazillac, almost honey  flavoured "pudding wine", can be sensational

  • Pécharmant is the fanciest of the Bergerac reds,  much like the neighbouring Bordeaux, but far cheaper.
